CloudBolt Software, a leading cloud cost management company, has announced the strategic acquisition of StormForge, a machine learning-powered Kubernetes resource optimization pioneer. This move aims to integrate StormForge’s advanced machine learning capabilities into CloudBolt’s award-winning FinOps platform, creating a comprehensive Kubernetes cost management and optimization solution.

StormForge’s Optimize Live, the company’s chief service, uses machine learning (ML) to analyze historical usage data, identify complex relationships and dependencies between containers, and generate reliable recommendations for changing workload patterns. Essentially, it can tune your workloads in real time.

In addition, StormForge integrates with tools like Horizontal Pod Autoscaler (HPA), KEDA, and Karpenter to enhance efficiency in resource scaling and node management.

All this matters because a recent Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) survey found that Kubernetes has increased cloud spending for 49% of organizations, with 70% citing overspending due to workload overprovisioning. That’s real money.

In particular, CloudBolt, which focuses on  FinOps and strives to streamline cloud operations and maximize cloud value, believes you can make big savings with this new pairing..

Thus, CloudBolt’s StormForge acquisition addresses these challenges by providing a unified solution that informs, optimizes, and operates containers more efficiently. As CloudBolt CEO Craig Hinkley said in the announcement, “StormForge’s innovative approach to Kubernetes optimization complements our vision perfectly. This acquisition integrates their technology seamlessly into our third-generation FinOps platform, delivering a more unified and intelligent way to manage costs and optimize Kubernetes operations.”

Specifically, “This acquisition integrates their technology seamlessly into our 3rd-generation FinOps platform, delivering a more unified and intelligent way to manage costs and optimize Kubernetes operations.”

AI-Driven FinOps

Following the acquisition, StormForge’s COO, Yasmin Rajabi, will join CloudBolt’s Executive Team as Chief Strategy Officer, ensuring a smooth transition and accelerating the development of the integrated solution. StormForge’s CTO, John Platt, will continue to drive AI/ML advancements across CloudBolt’s platform.

Since unveiling its Augmented FinOps plans in January 2024, CloudBolt has been at the forefront of AI/ML-driven FinOps. The acquisition of StormForge further advances CloudBolt’s innovation, solidifying its leadership in intelligent cloud optimization. The combined platform will provide customers with a closed-loop solution, from reporting to optimization capabilities, empowering FinOps leaders with trusted tools.
